From the rural town of Ruatoki, New Zealand to the bright lights on the World Stage.
Growing up as the youngest sibling of four was one of my greatest blessings in life. Genetically blessed with sporting talent, we sure were a competitive family and my sister & brothers never ever took me lightly. Mum and dad were both stars in their day and well, I guess that's where our talent came from. I played every sport I could as a kid because that's what made me happy!
But I never actually found my passion for rugby until I was 15 years old when I signed up to play for my school's rugby team. I joined to play with my friends and this was the start to my Black Jersey journey. My rise up the ranks were much faster than I expected and I learnt quickly about the importance of hard work, sacrifice, humility and resilience.
At 26 years old I have already learnt a lot of valuable lessons along the way and I will never forget what my teacher told me back in Whakatane High School:
"You can only control the controllables"
And this statement has contributed massively to my experiences and successes thus far in life.
I am a very happy, energised & bubbly individual who really enjoys exercising, outdoor adventures, yoga, studying, travelling and spending time with friends & family. I also understand and recognise the importance of self connection because in order for us to have the energy to look after others, we need to firstly look after ourselves! My values define my choices in life and I am truly blessed for the life I get to live everyday.
- BACHELOR OF HEALTH, SPORT & HUMAN PERFORMANCE, DOUBLE MAJORing IN SPORT AND MANAGEMENT COMMUNICATIONS through waikato university
"Whether you think you can or you can't you are right."
- Postgraduate Diploma in Business through Massey University
Playing professional sport has easily helped shape me into the person I am today and it has certainly contributed to my personal development toolkit.
From non selection I have learnt humility, from injury I have learnt resilience, from training hard I have learnt mental toughness, from travelling I have learnt compassion, from my teammates I have learnt work ethic, from media interviews I have learnt confidence, and from rugby in general I have learnt discipline, enthusiasm, professionalism & dedication.
As you can tell, my journey has been far from smooth sailing and I whole heartedly believe in the saying that:
"Nothing worth having, will ever come easy."
Juggling university with professional sport and still trying to make time for friends, family, other commitments and also for myself is definitely not an easy task.
But welcome to the world of Stacey who loves keeping herself busy. I am a massive believer in healthy living with 'balance' which is why I love being organised and planned.
My future dream is to inspire others to reach their full potential and help them realise they do not have to be the wealthiest person, or have everything to make it to the top.
Achieving goals purely comes from passion, persistence & determination. Too many people underestimate their talents & abilities to do great things and I want to be that motivational person who can help to keep them accountable.
